Great news for long journeys from Stockport Station by Taxi. For many years Taxis at Stockporet Rail Station have added a 1/3 surcharge on long journeys. Now a large group of the drivers working from this Station have stopped this practice. They have adopted a simple "smiley face" sticker clearly displayed in the windscreen of the Taxi -cab. Destinations that were commonly surcharged include Hale, Bowden and Altrincham. These journeys will now be charged at the Council controlled meter fares.

And although long overdue, the dropping of the plus 1/3 of meter fare surcharge for longer distance travellers, is a step in the right direction. Given the fierce competition in the taxi and private hire trade, this makes complete sense. I for one will support the Stockport taxi-drivers involved, by ONLY travelling in a black-cab displaying a "smiley-face."
